About The Shinobu 10 Year Old Pure Malt Whisky
In 2017, Shinobu Distillery was the first to receive a whisky license in the Niigata prefecture of Japan. Led by seasoned brewer and founder of the Niigata Beer craft brewery Mr. Ken Usami, the distillery is still being prepared for distillation. In the meantime, Mr. Usami is experimenting with blending whiskies from around the world, adding a unique Japanese touch to the releases via maturation in treasured Mizunara oak casks. Known for adding sandalwood, coconut, spice, and incense notes to the whisky, Mizunara trees can take up to 200 years to grow mature and their logging is restricted until they have reached at least 80 years of age. Shinobu 10 Year Old Pure Malt Mizunara Whisky is a blend of quality whiskies from different distilleries that were first reserved in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then finally finished in Mizunara oak. Bottled at 86 proof, this expression has garnered several awards, including a Gold Medal at the 2020 edition of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

About Japanese Whisky
Although maybe not be the first Spirit you would think of when Japan is mentioned; the Japanese make one of the best types of whisky in the world. It’s heavily influenced by scotch but with smoother and delicate notes.
The history of the Japanese whisky is not even a century old, but in this short time, the Japanese blended and single malts have taken over the world by storm and can easily go against their whisk(e)y counterparts from across the globe.
